🦉 Designing my personal logo with AI

(Different generations of the same logo, including it's stage)

I'll get into a little trouble for this, but I'm here to tell you the truth; no matter how bad it hurts.

And the truth is, logo design is unlikely to be a career ~5 years from now. Sure, Nike will still hire humans, and they'll always be a market for fantastic artists - but the average logo designer?

Not so much.

Why? Because it's possible today to create awesome logos with zero design skill. If you are good at choosing images, you too can be a designer. And we are only at the start of this. Imagine DALL-333?

So, let me explain my process. It's easy:

1. Find an image

Choose an image or brand you like from Google, for mine I picked an owl for absolutely no reason at all.

2. Create variations

Next, upload that sucker to DALL-E and click "create variations". DALL-E will spit out 4 different riffs of that original image. Keep picking favourites + generating variations until you get to something good.

Don't worry about colours, just focus on look and shape.

3. Trace and Recolour

The only part that requires design skill. Download your fave, and trace it using a tool like Figma. If you have no patience you can get someone on Fiver to do it in ~1 day.

I'm actually working on using a tool like this, so that you don't even need to do this step. You just upload it and select which shapes should be which colours.

4. Repeat

Here's the meta bit. Now you can re-upload that image and click "Create variations".

Suddenly, you are now getting unlimited revisions of your logo in the *right* brand colours. Imagine being able to ask your designer for unlimited revisions? Being able to iterate a hundred times until you get it to look exactly like you want it.I bet that robot up at the top is starting to look a little suspicious now, huh?

🔎 Tools & Tidbits

  • Descript - let's you edit a video like you would edit a Google doc. You can cut and copy text and it'll cut and edit your video like you're Casey Neistat without the sunglasses [link]

  • Notion AI - You've probably already seen this one, but their 1-minute video is so revolutionary that I think it's worth watching again [link]

  • Generate low-poly product images with Midjourney for your startup [link]

✍️ Prompt of the Day

You are the dungeon master, I am a wizard named "Azgard" who wants to play dungeons and dragons. You will build the world and react to me interacting with the world.

Let's begin. First, I'd like to go to the tavern, grab a beer, look for some other adventurers to start an adventure with.

The credit for this one is me, thank you me [link]

So, how did I do?

Thanks for reading this far, it actually means a lot. I don't really have anything else to say except, maybe you could share this if you like it?

Thanks a bunch 🙏
